Race Description

The Purbeck Marathon Sept 16th 2012

Brand new for 2012, a marathon in the Purbeck Hills. Predominantly offroad, this will be a very challenging marathon with 2000 feet of climbs. The spectacular views will more than make up for the pain!
The start & finish will be in Swanage Bay which has fantastic views across to Old Harry rocks,Bournemouth & the isle of wight. The route will take you across the breathtaking Jurrasic world heratige coast line, to Kimeridge & the deserted village of Tyneham, which is about the half way point. From here you then head along the ridge to Corfe Castle, were you will run along the base of the ramparts & into the village square. The route then takes you onto the common & across the Purbeck steam railway track, at which point, with a glance to your left you will see the origional steam railway station & the castle in the background.
From here you make your way back onto another ridge & head back to Swanage. As you look to the left you will see Poole harbour & the famous Brownsea island, where the scout movment was founded. The finish is a steady decent down onto the seafront at Swanage were you will recieve your T shirt,medal & maybe treat yourself to a paddle in the sea!!
