Race Description

Eridge Park 10 – Sunday 11th September 2011

World Record Holder and Ultra-Runner Mimi Anderson, to be celebrity guest at Eridge Park 10

Entries are filling fast for the annual 10-mile cross-country race in Eridge Park on Sunday 11 September. This year a very special guest, World Record Holder and ultra-runner, Mimi Anderson, will open the event and support runners in what is widely considered as one of the South East’s most challenging, yet friendly races. The Eridge Park 10, organised by local running club Tunbridge Wells Harriers, has seen steady growth in popularity since its inception 12 years ago, appealing to runners looking for a tough challenge in one of the most natural private parks in the area. In 2010 the race was voted the UK Number 1 by Runner’s World magazine and was lauded by Observer Sport magazine as Best Race in the World!

Just south of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, Eridge Park is reputedly the oldest enclosed deer park in England and offers some stunning scenery including three beautiful lakes, ancient woodland, Victorian follies and a Saxon fort. The single lap route takes in all this and more. Underfoot the terrain is “deeply steep and muddy hard”, making for an unforgettable race.

Allan Cheek, Race Director commented ‘We are thrilled that local ultra-runner and World Record Holder ‘Marvelous’ Mimi Anderson is coming along to support the event as starter and prize-giver. She is an inspiration and her presence will be a fitting encouragement to all who take part in what promises to be yet another very special race’.

Entries cost only £14 for affiliated and £16 for non-affiliated runners and all entrants receive a specially designed t-shirt as a memento, as well as free cake and beer at the finish. Trail or fell shoes (not spikes) are recommended as you can expect all manner of conditions! Enter online at www.twharriers.org.uk or on the day if spaces are still available.

In a Runner’s World vote last year, 100% of runners said they would do it again – simply a testament to the organisers’ attention to detail and the beauty of the route.

Commenting on the race, a runner from London said, ‘What a brilliant event the Eridge Park 10 was! The course was tough with long hills, steep descents and mud everywhere, but that was what made it so great. The organisation was first rate and friendly, the location was stunning and you actually got a free t-shirt that fitted. At the end you got free beer and cake. What more could you ask for?’

With only a few weeks to go until the event, places are filling fast, so don’t hang about, enter online today and experience one of the South East’s toughest but friendliest races.
