The 21th October 2012 will take place the 6th Chianti Marathon at Castelnuovo Beradenga, (15 km from Siena), witch is included in the Italian list of “Slow Cities and centre of the Cities of the Wine” .
The route will take you on paths (only 2.5 km of asphalt) through some of the most important and historical places and very impressive landscapes of this corner in Tuscany.
We will start from the main square of the town and after a short part going through the Senese Crete, we will arrive at the memorial stone of Monteaperti (10th km) that serves to remind us of the historical battle between the Senesi and Florentines in 1260 described by Dante in the Divine Comedy. We will continue towards the Chianti area and arrive at Montegiachi , a beautiful fortified castle (300 mt above sea); afterwards we will reach the estates of Poggiobonelli, Calcinaia and Pagliarese and finally arrive at Villa a Sesta.
Here the hardest climb waits for us (1.5km of stones) leading us to the fortress of Sestaccia, and from there to the highest point, Campi (646 mt). Now a long descent brings us to San Gusmè , a beautiful medieval village completely restored that offers a wonderful view on the Chianti hills. We go up and down on paths until we reach the estate of Arceno.
There you will be surprised by a beautiful panorama: a road with cypresses one km long.
