Race Description

From our HQ right in the heart of London you will commence operations on the City’s streets with one objective, to bag as many of the 35 military-styled checkpoints as you can within 4hrs, the details of which will be released only an hour before you start. There is no set route so it’s up to you to plan your approach to the operation. Choose to go on foot patrol and roam the streets or make it a more leisurely day out using public transport and with wave starts from 10:30 it’s up to you.

Soldier Challenge takes to the streets of London on Saturday 19th May 2012 to provide a unique military-styled physical and mental test. Open to all abilities, the event will see teams of 2, 3 or 4 traversing the city, completing a number of different military themed challenges and locating other special checkpoints on route.

We will also be testing your fundraising skills as all money raised goes straight to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity; helping soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need. Remember, raise £150 or more and get a discounted entry!

Before you start, you will attend a briefing in which we will tool you up with an A-Z map and location details of some 35 military-themed checkpoints dotted around central London. Armed with the map & info, you and your team will line up at your chosen start wave (wave starts from 10.30) and set off on to the city streets with up to 4hrs to bag as many checkpoints and complete as many activities as you can. It’s up to you to decide how you get about – running, public transport or a mix of both. No bikes allowed though – that includes no ‘Boris bikes’. Private transport is prohibited including motorcycles and cars.

The checkpoints each have a “difficulty rating” (with a points value attached) and tips as to whether it is physical, mental, comedy, involve water etc, to allow you to see what’s in store for you when you get there.

We’ll keep time with an electronic chip system and it’s up to you how much you want to pit yourself “against the clock” or simply enjoy the day and visit the checkpoints you like the look of. The 4hrs is a target – some people will return earlier, and others later. And when we tot up the points scored, we’ll see if you’ve beaten the opposition.
