Race Description
There are three courses to choose from ranging from the tough 48km route through to the nearly impossible 100km course!
Clif Bar 10 Peaks Xtreme
100km/ 8000m ascent/ 30 hours
The Xtreme course takes things to another level! This 100km circular route, starting and finishing in Keswick takes in all of the 10 highest peaks as well as another 10 compulsory peaks including Blencathra, Clough Head, Raise, Fairfield, Seat Sandal, High Raise, Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Dale Head and Maiden Moor. This is a natural extension to the Long Course which follows a similar, but not identical, route to that of the Bob Graham Round. The tough terrain combined with over 8000m of ascent make this one of the hardest non-stop ultra distance races on the calendar.
Clif Bar 10 Peaks The Lakes
73km/ 5600m ascent/ 24 hours
The route will take you over dramatic rocky crags, across open moorland and through low lying bogs following a clockwise loop incorporating all ten of the Lake District’s highest peaks.
There are two suggested routes. The standard routes stays on the high ground, taking the Corridor Route between Scafell Pike and Great Gable (climbing Great Gable before Pillar), whilst the alternative route descends into Wasdale after completing Scafell and heads up to Pillar by Wind Gap (bagging Pillar before Great Gable) – this route means that you will have to climb Great Gable after the Beck Head check point. The alternative route is about 1km shorter but adds 50m altitude gain and a beast of a scramble up through Wind Gap.
Participants will need to navigate their own way from peak to peak on foot and feel confident doing so night or day. Below you can view the suggested routes however this is only a suggestion and you will need to make the best decisions based on your own level of experience.
Clif Bar 10 Peaks The Lakes Short Course
48km/ 3200m ascent/ 24 hours
The route follows a similar clockwise loop as the full course incorporating seven of the Lake District’s highest peaks. The course misses out Scafell, Pillar and Skiddaw making this more achievable for a lot of people. Having said that, this is still an incredibly tough challenge and one that deserves to be treated with respect. This is the perfect course for those who aren’t quite ready for the 10 highest but are experienced in the mountains and confident navigators.
