Race Description

The Atacama Crossing (Chile) is part of the 4 Deserts series that was named by TIME magazine as #2 on its list of Top 10 Endurance Competitions in the world. It is a seven-day, six-stage, 250-kilometer / 150-mile self-supported footrace across the Atacama Desert of Chile. During the 250-kilometer / 150-mile event, competitors must carry their own personal gear, food and clothing in a backpack. The only assistance provided to them is water (plenty) for drinking and making food, tents to sleep in at night, and medical and management support.

The entire event will be held at least 2.3 kilometers / 1.4 miles above sea level and cover the distance required to make a horizontal crossing of the country of Chile.
