ARCHIVED RACE: MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon @ Dallas, TX, USA – Sunday, 4th December 2011

The 42nd running of the MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon, Half Marathon and 5-Person Relay is Sunday, December 4 at Fair Park in Dallas, TX with all races beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration is available at www.runtherock.com and is expected to sell out (25,000 cap) by November.

A flat and fast course takes marathoners on a scenic route through Dallas: the early miles of the course run from Fair Park to downtown Dallas and pass through the Arts District, Uptown and Dallas’s Turtle Creek and Highland Park neighborhoods. Just past the eight-mile mark, participants in the half marathon split from the participants in the full marathon and head back to Fair Park, running slightly downhill until the finish line. At the split, full marathoners head to run a loop around White Rock Lake; miles nine to 20 of the marathon are downhill or flat. Runners leave the loop and experience a couple of miles with elevation gain as they head up the “Dolly Parton Hills” before enjoying just over three miles of a downhill finish past the historic Swiss Avenue mansions on the return to Fair Park.

Proceeds of the race directly benefit Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children; the Dallas White Rock Marathon board of directors has pledged a $1 million donation to TSRHC in 2011. DWRM participants, or interested non-participants, can fundraise for the hospital through personalized fundraising pages available at the marathon’s website.
